India day 2

I have reached the himalayas today and I think i deserved it. The journey has been literally and non literally very rocky, as the roads where full of holes, respectively, because I jumped from shared taxi to shared taxi in almost every village we passed. The shared taxis were mostly jeeps and only driving, when enough people join for a trip. That means 10-12 people. So I spent my day sitting on the lap of at least 5 different tobacco-chewing guys. I had a very good nap on one of those laps. With every village I passed, the landscape got more and more hilly and more rural. People hardly speak English anymore and I underestimated this. I feel very bold going up to people and just expecting them to talk another language, when I can't. Still, with help of some very friendly people, I managed to get to Saari village. This himalayan village is the starting point for a trek I will start tomorrow. Life here is much slower and less dense than in the low-land places I've seen yesterday and today - and I am happy for that. I ate for dinner with the family I am staying with. The main ingredients of the dish were produced on the fields next to the house by the father, and cooked by the mother. Daal, chapathi, rice, and vegetables. It tasted better than any Indian food I have ever tasted in Europe.
